OUR STORY
A house of conversation at Waterloo Place.
Since 1819, Waterloo Place has welcomed travellers, writers, reformers and curious minds to eat, meet and exchange ideas. Among them were Charles Dickens and abolitionist Frederick Douglass, part of a tradition of conversation and hospitality spanning more than two centuries.
Today, Society carries that spirit forward with thoughtful cooking, carefully chosen wines and a warm welcome. Led by Head Chef Ross McGregor, our kitchen combines the easy charm of European cafés with exceptional Scottish produce, sourced from trusted farmers, growers, fishmongers and producers wherever possible.

BRUNCH
(8am - 4pm)
THE FULL SCOTTISH
Two pork sausages, crispy bacon, black pudding, haggis, grilled tomato, mushrooms, house-baked beans, two poached eggs, tattie scone and bloomer toast.
SHAKSHUKA
Two fried eggs nestled into our North African-style shakshuka with plum tomatoes, sweet peppers and onions. Olive oil, chickpeas, yoghurt and warm flatbread. (v)
THE HIGHLANDER
Fine Scottish smoked salmon and two soft-poached eggs served on bloomer toast, with cottage cheese, chives and fresh pea shoots.
DINNER
(5.30pm - 10pm)
LOBSTER ROLL FRITES
Scottish-caught lobster, dressed in celery, lemon and paprika mayo and piled into a toasted brioche roll with crisp lettuce. Rich, buttery and worth a fuss. Limited to ten each day.
10oz FLAT IRON STEAK
Our most popular dish: 10oz flat iron steak, charred and served with frites and your choice of peppercorn, béarnaise or chimichurri sauce.
BUTCHER’S RESERVE BURGER
45-day dry-aged chuck and brisket burger with bone marrow, Monterey Jack, beer onions, house sauce, lettuce and pickles. Served with frites. Only ten available each evening.
